Surely these haughty dinosaur media types understand that they're actually working against their own interests, right? After all, they're supposed to be so much more intelligent than the rest of us, so much more "nuanced" and "effete." Do they really want to underestimate the American electorate again, the same Silent Majority that swept Ronald Reagan into office twice, even without new media like talk radio, cable and Internet blogs?

Or is it simply that, like Obama, they're so invested in their self-image of superiority they've lost all grip on reality? Sounds like a conundrum for the gifted Dr. Helen to analyze.
